Pesca en Cedros

We know all the good spots!

We will give you one heck of a good time!

Our boat crew and our hotel staff will make sure that you fish to your heart’s content, sleep like a baby at night, and eat delicious meals in between. Just sit back, relax, and let the team of Cedros Fishing and Diving give you a wonderful experience through genuine service and good cheer.

We already booked again for next year!

Ulises, Marina, chef Lourdes and captain Jesús made us feel at home.  Ulises is a superhost who goes out of his way to please his clients.  Everyone made sure that we could catch fish, from trevally to mahi-mahi, and even flounder!

Cedros Fishing and Diving has the best fish cleaning station on the island. The way they handled the fish was extremely clean and with strict quality control to keep the fish clean and at cool temperature.  High five for their set-up!

The pangas are very stable and extremely comfortable, we spent almost 10 hours fishing.  The hotel is very comfortable and above all, extremely clean, with free wi-fi and delicious food!

A million thanks to Ulises and the crew!

What Your Typical Day of Fishing Looks Like

Rise and shine

Your day starts bright and early at 5 am.  Head over to the kitchen for some coffee or tea.  If you pre-ordered breakfast the day before, it will be served together with your beverage.  50 minutes later, transfer by van to our private dock, walk down the ramp, board your panga, and get ready for your Cedros sport fishing adventure!  Our team will take care of loading your belongings on the boat.

At 6 am, after one last check to make sure that all the fishing gear (very important), lunch and drinks (even more important!) are onboard, you will depart from the marina and head out to open ocean. Your captain will take you to the best fishing spots in the Pacific Baja.  Time to reel in and land that fish!

Fish to your heart's content

Fishing hours are from 6 am to 4 pm.  When you return to the marina, the team will be waiting for you at our private dock to transfer you to your accommodation.  Your fishing gear will follow you shortly and it will be rinsed it off with freshwater by the staff back at the hotel.  They will also take care of your day’s catch in our very own fish cleaning station. Your fish will be cleaned, vacuum packed, and kept in cold storage until you are ready to take it home with you.

Back to home base

The kitchen staff will be waiting to welcome you back with a tasty snack to whet up your appetite for dinner.  Sit back and relax at the hotel or take a tour of this island town with a local guide.

Enjoy a delicious dinner at 6 pm to end the day and rest up for the another great day of fishing.

What Your Transfer Day Looks Like

From your starting point

Depending on the package that you choose, your Cedros sport fishing adventure begins either in San Diego, California, or in Baja California Sur, Mexico. If you’re starting your trip from the United States, we will be meeting in San Ysidro, where your driver will be waiting for you and your fishing gear.  Board our air-conditioned van for a comfortable and safe ride across the border.  Your driver will be with you the whole time as you go through the immigration procedures in Mexico.  From there, it’s a short 2-hr journey to Ensenada, where you will enjoy a delicious Mexican breakfast before transferring to the airport for a 1-hr and 40-min flight to Cedros Island.

If your trip begins in Baja, board your flight at Guerrero Negro Regional Airport for a 30-min transfer to Cedros.  You can also drive to Punta Eugenia, a small fishing village with less than 30 inhabitants, and then take a 50-min boat ride to the island from there.

Arriving to Cedros Island

Arrive to Cedros Island and transfer to Hotel El Chavito, which will be your home on the island for the duration of your stay.  The fishing crew will set up your equipment while you enjoy the delicious meal prepared by the chef and kitchen staff.  You have the option to go fishing or just relax on your first day.

Going home

On your last day, after a hearty breakfast, it’s time to say our goodbyes.  We’ll be sad to see you get on your flight or boat ride from Cedros Island.  If your flight lands in Ensenada, your driver will be waiting for you at the airport.

The entire team of Cedros Fishing and Diving will ensure that you have a great experience and a memorable stay in Baja, Mexico.

Lovely team, spacious skiffs, yummy food, great service!

They say a picture paints a thousand words.  We have compiled some photos of our operation behind the scenes.  A lot of hard work and team effort go in to each trip to ensure that you have a great experience.  Everything is ready before you arrive to the island and even before you leave, we are already thinking of ways to provide a better service on your next visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Know Before you Go and WHAT TO EXPECT

On Fishing

No problem! Your experienced captain will show you the basics of sport fishing and will be there to lend a helping hand when you attempt to land your first fish. He will be happy to answer your questions and give you some useful tips.

We have highly experienced guides who will take care of you underwater and onboard the skiff.  They know all the good sites, and they will ensure your safety underwater.

The spearfishing activity starts at a depth of 15 feet.

Kindly bring all your spearfishing gear, including surface marker buoys.  If arriving from Punta Eugenia by boat, you can also bring your diving weights.  However, please take note of the 15-kg maximum weight limit if flying from Ensenada or Guerrero Negro.  Each person can bring a maximum of 3 spearguns on the flight.

Our pangas have a ladder for your comfort.  We run spearfishing trips for the same price as a regular fishing trip.

The fishing season in Cedros is from June through October.  You can catch the following:

  • Yellowtail
  • White sea bass
  • Halibut
  • California sheephead
  • Calico bass
  • Dorado (mahi-mahi)
  • Wahoo
  • Black sea bass
  • California broomtail grouper

Each person is allowed to catch up to 5 fish per species, per day, except for dorado.  The maximum is 2 per person, per day for dorado and 1 per person, per day for black sea bass.

We will be happy to give you some recommendations.  Just ask us at the time of your booking and we will help you out.

If you’re coming to Cedros for spearfishing, do bring all your gear with you, including surface marker buoys.

You can leave your coolers in your vehicle or in our van in Ensenada. Lightweight, collapsible thermal coolers are perfect for the flight from the island.   You can then transfer your fish to your hard-shell cooler when you land.

If you are arriving by boat from Punta Eugenia, you can bring your ice chests to Cedros Island and keep them at Hotel El Chavito.  We will put your vacuum-packed and completely-frozen fish inside the coolers in the morning of your departure.

On Everything Else

We recommend comfortable clothing such as shorts and long-sleeved fishing shirts.  If you’re sensitive to cold, lightweight pants and a windbreaker are good for protecting you from the chilly morning air that we sometimes get.  Don’t forget your sunglasses, hat, and sunscreen.

Do you suffer from motion sickness?  Please bring your medication and be sure to take it at least one hour before getting on the panga.

Not to worry! With a local translator, you won’t experience any communication gap on your trip.  You might even take home some key Spanish phrases with you!

You will get to enjoy delicious, authentic Mexican food during your stay with us.  Our menu includes a wide variety of dishes, from meat cooked on the barbie to seafood a la plancha, usually served with a salad or vegetables on the side.

If you have food allergies or specific dietary restrictions, please provide us with the details one week in advance so that we can adjust the menu for you.

Alcoholic beverages are not included.  You may bring your own liquor or, if you wish, we can take you to the shop in the village so that you can purchase your beverage of choice.

If you don’t have a fishing license, we can purchase it for you.  These prices may change without prior notice:

  • 1 day – MXN 167 per person
  • 1 week – MXN 418 per person
  • 1 month – MXN 628 per person
  • 1 year – MXN 837 per person

We have fishing gear for sale.

Gratuities will be sincerely appreciated by the staff.

In Baja, Mexico, it is customary to leave a tip, especially if you feel that our team provided you with a genuinely warm service and we did our best to give you an excellent experience.

Our team is divided into two groups, the fishing boat captains and the rest of the staff.  We recommend that you tip your captain onboard your assigned panga.  What you leave with the rest of the staff will be divided between the kitchen and housekeeping personnel, drivers, translator, and cleaning station crew.
